1972 Double Die Lincoln Cents

The 1972 Double Die Lincoln Cent is another significant double die error from the Lincoln Cent series. The most famous, of course, is the 1955 Double Die Lincoln Cent.

The 1972 Double Die was caused by the misalignment of dies, causing doubling to appear on the lettering and date. The doubling is most prominent on the date and the lettering of the words "Liberty" and "In." Approximately 75,000 double die coins were produced this year.
